weddings are special and sacred and i think photographers should honor the bride and groom by wearing appropriate attire. i've seen far too many photogs wearing jeans and shorts and i think that's so disrespectful.
with that said, i wear a dress. crazy, you say? actually, really really comfortable.
pre-preggo-belly, my favorite dress is nantucket from shabby apple. this gem is a wrap dress flattering all figures and has two front pockets -perfect for storing extra cards and batteries without looking like those pocket-vested/teva-with-sock-wearing/bearded/male photog dorks. (fyi: i don't collar-pop mine cause i think it looks lame.)
since that dress now splits open with this growing belly, i've now graduated to bow baby --which is a similar version, but sans pockets and wrap. (shabby, please make this with pockets!)
i do want to note that i don't think photographers must wear black.. it just happened that these were the right dresses for me.

I always wonder what I should wear to do shoots, knowing that if I venture into the dress/shirt category, I might be flashing my subjects if I want to spend time on the ground, splayed out, etc. to get the shot. Has this ever happened to you? And do you sometimes feel limited in taking your shots at the risk of a flash or two?

ReplyDeleteI'm never laying on the ground for shots (although at the last wedding, i quickly sat down for a shot) so I don't know --but these dresses are pretty covering as it is so I doubt you'd be flashing anyone.

I've just decided to start wearing a dress to shoot weddings (don't worry, I've previously been dressed up in skinny pants, heels, and a pretty top/sweater combo - but feel that a dress would even better suit the occasion!!:) and I've been looking for a great one with no luck... I'll definitely check this one out since you look so cute in yours!

ReplyDeleteI totally agree about dressing up with the couple in mind. I am not a photographer, but I've seen many photogs dress WAY inappropriately for weddings. In March I went to a super formal wedding and the male photographer was wearing acid washed skinny jeans, chucks, t-shirt and editor hat. Big fail. I was not impressed.
