Glass Bottles with Stoppers

My mom and I were at dinner in the south of France a couple years ago and we were offered water in a great, glass bottle (carafe d'eau). We both thought they were a good idea -where could we find them? Thinking we'd bring home some great French bottles home with us, we looked at the bottom of the carafe. IKEA.

How embarrassing... and awesome that we could stock our fridges with juices and water with this $2.99 bottle. It looks so much better than busy cardboard. Bon Appetit also featured a colored glass version from Mxyplyzyk that I really want in blue.

  1. those are very cute! i'm totally into carafes for juice, though i only have one plastic one that i think came from walmart.

  2. Right now Costco has really yummy French Blood orange sodas and French Lemonade in bottles just like those, but they're clear. I have to admit, I bought them solely for the bottles, but the drinks are good too!

  4. i've been storing our water and drinks in glass bottles similar to these for the past year and i love it. i actually bought them at whole foods just to use the bottles, a french sparkling drink called lorina. after enjoying the yummy drinks, we took the labels off and they have been perfect for us.
(if you do this, the only flavor that i had trouble washing out of the container was the pom. blueberry, it took several washings before my water didn't have a hint of pom. blueberry in it.)
also, i've seen the colored ones at tjmaxx, marshall's and homegoods. obviously hit or miss, but they do have them. as do some container stores i believe.

  6. In the UK, they have a beer called Grolsch that was sold in dark green versions of these bottles. I bought a round for my friends just so I could get my hands on the bottles. Alas they had to stay behind in the UK when I moved over here. I'm excited to get my hands on a few again. Even if they have to be a different colour.

  7. I use these a lot - I make big batches of homemade vanilla extract and simple syrups for fun cocktails (Can't wait for spring to make violet simple syrup for fun spins on Gin and Tonics and Gin Gimlets!).

  11. I have one of these Ikea bottles and love it. I just saw some really similar colored bottles to these at tjmaxx yesterday for $4.99 each...no blue though.

(Sorry for the comment spam...took me three tries to type this right.)
