probably the hardest photograph i've had to take is a self-portrait.
i hate them, hate them, hate them... which is why i'm behind the camera.
let's have a little contest of sorts. last time i took a self-portrait, (6 yrs ago) it was this wussy shot below. i'm going to try again.. want to join me?
the rules:
* it has to look like you. meaning, your face has to be included.
* you cannot have a camera covering your face. i absolutely completely positively hate these shots. don't email one to me.
* it must be taken after today.
* it can be color, b&w and digitally manipulated -but be honest.. don't take liquify to the extreme. :)

the prize:
* you'll get the very first copy of my textbook, due out in Nov.
i dunno.. i don't have much to offer.. what else would you want?
the deadline:
* i'll need some time to procrastinate, of course.. so let's say Sept 30.
please email me your lovely self-portraits and i'll post my favorites and announce the winner shortly after.
the why:
not because i think you want my book, but i want people to join the misery with me so i'll buck up and do it.
... Egads... I'm off to change the self photo on my blog....
ReplyDeleteit would be a lot of fun if you used Mr. Linky and had everyone post the pictures on their blog and then go to yours to link back. It's a great way to see what other photographers (hobbyist to professional) do with their self portrait challenge.
ReplyDeleteis there any rules to color, black and white, or photo shop?
ReplyDeletei'll try!
ReplyDeleteSounds fun, already planning!
ReplyDeleteI'm very tempted to give this a shot ... (haha, no pun intended)
ReplyDeleteoooh scary! but maybe a good photo project
ReplyDeleteHaven't done this since some truly frightening ones in college.
ReplyDeleteA great challenge!
Ill be trying my darned hardest not to liquify myself to non-existance. =) This is going to be a challenge... which im lovin.
ReplyDeleteI hate them too, but I am working on getting over myself. I'd love to participate.
ReplyDeleteUgh. I really need to do this but have been dreading it also. I would love to win your textbook and even more I would love to win a spot in your Utah photo 101 class in October!!! I really hope you do another class...
ReplyDeleteOhh, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on your textbook so I guess I'll try to take a self portrait... Even though I hate them as much as you do... ugh.
ReplyDeleteIs there a rule to how much of your face has to be in the frame? Your example only shows one eye...so I'm assuming that's okay...?
ReplyDeletewell.. i have this example to show how i need to pony up and show my face... so try to do that as well!
ReplyDeleteI hate self portraits, too. I think I just always look funny. I guess I'm my own harshest critic.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to get your book, so I'll definitely buck up and take a picture.
awesome, i love self portraits, will send one soon! :)
ReplyDeleteAw dang! This is hard! Whenever I take a self portrait I always have a pained look on my face or the camera is pointed up my nose...
ReplyDeleteoh NOOOOOOOOOOES! I just saw this today! I would have loved to participate in this!
